Character Description
Leo's head, along with much of his body, is covered in thick and curly fire red hair, including a full beard and mustache. He normally keeps it all short and carefully trimmed, but weeks on the road without a means of doing so can easily turn it into a wild mane. Green eyes are set in a warm and friendly face, which often bears a pleased smile.

Physically, in part thanks to the hair, the man resembles a red furred bear more than anything else. Just over six feet in height, with unusually broad shoulders, a thick frame, and the muscles to back it all up.

Acutely aware of his size and how it can be perceived, Leo keeps his body language relaxed and nonthreatening in most situations. The man is friendly to all he does not perceive as a threat to the peace, and will go to great lengths to deescalate unnecessary conflict if given the chance. He particularly delights in bringing hope and joy to others where he can.

He is a strong believer in the Maker, and believes the church is the surest path to fulfillment in life, but unlike many of his peers, he does not believe that the authority of the church is the same as the maker's will. In his opinion, serving the maker is achieved primarily by leading a good life. The ceremonies and trappings and authority of the church can guide and empower, but are not actually necessary. This stance has led to some conflict, while Leo has yet to actually disobey orders, he has questioned from time to time.

Trait: "I can find common ground between the fiercest of enemies, empathizing with them and always working towards peace"
Ideal: "Faith, I trust that the Maker will guide my actions, I have faith that if I work hard, things will go well."
Bond: Sworn to ensure the safety of Father Marcellus in his mission to the wilds.
Flaw: "My piety sometimes leads me to blindly trust those who profess faith in the Maker"
Character History
An orphan in some respects, Leo was raised as a Child of the Church. His birth parents may or may not be alive somewhere, but it is unlikely that he will ever know them, or how he came to be raised by the ordained.

At a young age, he was apprenticed to a smith who served the Crusader army, crafting armor, weapons, and tools for the righteous. Showing signs of some innate talent with the weapons he helped make, the boy was eventually offered a chance to train to become a paladin himself. Generous to a fault, he swiftly agreed. This training changed his life in many respects. He'd been raised to believe in the maker. But for the first time in his life, Leo could feel the god's warmth running through him.

Leo earned particular distinction in his first major assignment. A rogue mage had turned necromancer, and had been discovered with the animated corpses of dozens of people he'd murdered, children included. Representatives of the Akashic order were contacted, but would not arrive for some time. As immediate action was needed, a senior crusader conscripted others in the area, Leo included, to hunt down the fleeing mage. According to his commanding officer at the time, when they cornered the mage again, Leo's courage and skill in battle saved the life of two of his brothers, while also preventing the mage from escaping once more.

It was perhaps for that reason that Leo found himself on the short list of candidates for the missions to the wilds. It is a mission he is quite conflicted about. While seeing the races of the wilds turn to the maker would be desirable to him, the church is more likely to incite violence with its current approach. He is determined to find a way to at least prevent this matter from turning to war.
