Dungeons & Dragons A Crone, A Marquis & A Missing Medallion Role-playing Game

Word is that Bartholomeus Sylas, Earl of Loya, a big urban center in the south-western part of The Empire, is in need of help. After the yearly request from the Emperor of new soldiers for reinforcing the garrison in LastKeep, the numbers of the local militia have been almost halved making the Earl control on the territory weaker. Travelers report that the roads are not safe anymore and the population started to show signs of unrest. The attempts of the Earl to [forcefully] enlist new men from the countrysides had the only result of increasing the level of unhappiness. People [are] loosing faith in the local police and started to seek justice by themselves. A perfect scenario for ambitious adventurers that can either act as bounty hunters or offer their services to the increasingly worried Earl Bartholomeus Sylas.

Her backpack is full and she is ready, Krusten takes a last look in her mirror before packing it away. You can be tough and look good she thinks to herself. She was unlike other women in the surrounding area, rugged but beautiful but most of all very skilled and very fast. She bids farewell to her uncle, opens the front door and then thinks about the direction to go.

Has been a long and tiring journey, through the central provinces of the Empire until the Southern Road and then to the west in the direction of Loya. The days passed while Krusten ate mile after mile of the large stone-paved road. Often, she didn't even had the comfort of an inn at night having to sleep in improvised camps. While wondering how far away could still be the city, Krusten spots a group of men busily working around a broken kart. The sun is already starting to sink beyond the line of the horizon and her legs crave for a well deserved rest.

Krusten stops, finds something to give her cover and tries to listen / see what the men are doing, in other words she tries to see if they will be hostile towards her. Even if they appear friendly she will still remain hidden.

Krusten takes cover hiding behind some trees. The men are too busy to notice her presence. There are 5 or 6 commoners trying to fix a broken kart. From the way they swear and sweat, Krusten can easily say they are having a hard time. Occasionally, she can hear some pieces of their conversation. "Why we don't just live it here?", one asks. "Let's just turn back", another says. One of them is standing, giving his back to Krusten. Apparently, he is the one in charge. They wear no armor, only common clothes, and, save for few wooden clubs and some tools, there are no weapons in sight either.

Krusten will emerge from her hiding place. She uses her beauty and charm to find out all that has happened to these commoners and any hidden intentions they might have. At the same time she remains alert and on guard for any surprises.

When he realizes that somebody is coming down the street, the man that was standing up in front of the group stops shouting orders and turns in your direction. He greets you in a polite and formal manner. "You should not venture alone in this area, Madam. Even with all that gear You are bringing around", he says. "These lands are not as safe as they used to be. And You have the proof of my words just under Your beautiful eyes", he adds pointing at the broken kart. From a closer look, you notice that the men are more than you thought: there's eight of them but two were hidden from your point of view because they are laying on the ground, wounded. A large piece of their shirts has been cut and used as an improvised bandage, leaving their belly exposed to the cold winter air.

Krusten is surprised to see the two men on the ground. She immediately regrets showing herself without trying to get a better look but none of this she makes known and tries to pretend to be naive about the whole affair.

"What happened to them?" Krusten asks as she has a look at them for herself to see the cause of their deaths.
