Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 A Crone, A Marquis & Missing Medallion RPG - Page 3

Krusten checks the lower branches and sees a small object. She picks it up: it looks like a brass brooch or badge shaped in the form of a dagger piercing a round shield. She pockets it and goes to sleep, too exhausted to do anything else or even to think about the last events. Is a quiet night. In the morning Krusten is surprised to see that the men already left, leaving a dead campfire and some scraps of wood as witnesses of their night activity. Looking around, she sees a man approaching from the east. He wears a padded armor and holds a javelin in his hand. This man, Tomas, already spotted the girl from a distance and is hastening his pace. Is a cold morning. Only Sun, or Sole, like it is commonly called, lights the sky on day 18 of the 2nd month in the year 317 after the Cataclysm.

As morning breaks, Tomas is up and packed ready to move. No time to dawdle when there is word to be spread. Marching at a steady pace, as soon as he spots movement ahead, he raises his shield up in front and raises his javelin ready to act. He moves slowly now, looking around.

Satisfied that his is the only person he can see, he drops his shield arm to his side lowering his guard, javelin still sitting high on his shoulder. "Greetings traveler, I am a missionary of Felnuus and mean you no harm. What are you doing out here and which way are you heading?"

Krusten is surprised that she heard nothing of the men leaving. She takes the item she collected out of her pocket to inspect it further. As she looks at it she spots the man coming and ventures out carefully to see what he is about. Again surprised by his mannerism she replies,

"Oh, I'm just a traveler. I cam across some men who were attacked and they camped here" She points to evidence of their dead camp.

"Did you by chance see which way they went?"

"I'm sorry, but I have seen nobody but you in the hour since I broke camp. You say they were attacked? Was anyone injured?"

Upon hearing the answer "There is no chance they could have continued without endangering their wounded men. I must catch up and help them."

A dire thought crosses his mind and Tomas gulps, "Unless they were taken. But then, why leave you? Maybe we should quickly check for tracks just in case. The cart should be easy to spot in the dirt."

"Yes, that is what they said, they were attacked."

Surprised by his next conclusion she says, "Taken? How do you mean?"

Rather off topic, but...
Hello down under, are you really from Australia?

Tomas checks the stone-paved road for clues. He finds some evidence of the work the men did on the kart and of the recent battle: some scraps of wood, a broken wooden maul, part of an arrow and few drops of dry blood. But the hard, levigated stones bear no tracks of wheels or feet. There are no hints of a new struggle so he assumes that they may just have left seeking aid for their wounded companions. Krusten examines at the daylight the item she found last night but cannot find anything new about it.

Krusten, feeling stumped, decides to continue onward the way she was going but instead walk off the path of the road so she is not ambushed. Before this she asks the stranger about himself and his skills, When she feels reasonably comfortable with his presence she asks him if he cares to venture along.

Krusten and Tomas decide to join forces and venture ahead towards the city of Loya. Is not long before they catch up on the group of men pulling the cart, now used for transporting the two wounded commoners. One of the wheels have been fixed in a hasted manner and you can see the cart jumping and straying along the road. Some blankets have been put under the bodies of the wounded passengers in an attempt to give them some comfort. You can now count only four men. As soon as they spot Tomas approaching, they stop. They are still unaware of Krusten's presence.
