Menopause

I was wondering if anyone here has any advice for someone going through menopause. I do not want to take drugs for this and some of the symptoms are really becoming troublesome. Especially hot flashes. I used to think these were funny and giggled at women who complained about them. Now it's my turn and I ain't laughing anymore. I had tried Black Cohosh but found out that there may be problems with them in women, like me, who have a history of hypertension. So I take nothing and I suffer. Besides the hot flashes there are the intense mood swings. I sometimes get so upset over the tiniest thing. My husband is a real gem, he totally understands and NEVER gets upset with me. I just want to know that what I'm going through is normal and there will be an end to it all and I will be myself again. Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Menopause

This is a page from an unlikely source -- www.breastcancer.org -- that has what looks like good information for women who suffer severe hot flashes.

I wish you great good luck with taming these -- my mother has suffered with them for over 20 years. However, she may be perpetuating the problem by continuing with the HRT for too long. I've talked to a couple of other women who are determined to do without hormones all together and just "tough it out," because the symptoms are supposed to go away rather quickly if you do.

All the best --

Thanks Farseer. I will definitely try to tough it out without HRTs. I don't want to go through this for 20 years. It is nice to know that if I can hang in there without drugs that the symptoms will disappear. I have wondered if I am having such a hard time because I never had a child. There have been people who have told me this in the past but I never believed them, now I'm not so sure. Anyway thanks again for the information.

Hormones May Not Stop Menopause Symptoms

CHICAGO - Judy Smith says she had five years without hot flashes while participating in a study of hormone supplements. But she quit taking them after results showed the pills could cause more harm than good. The symptoms returned for Smith - and many other participants in a new survey, suggesting the pills might postpone but not prevent menopausal symptoms.

Menopause

I just ran across another source of information about menopause and all things related to it:

https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/menopau...agnosissymptoms

A service from the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health.

This looks like a very comprehensive medical information site, with links that pick up information from a variety of other medical websites. Personally, I didn't know we had a National Library of Medicine. This is a great service for those of us who like to look up medical information.

This particular article has great basic information about menopause:

Menopause

I finally gave up and took HRT. I just couldn't take it anymore. Before I strarted I researched on the net all the pros and cons and the pros far outweighed the cons. After a few years I started weening myself off the patch and the progesterone. Now I am symptom free with the odd 1-2 minute hot flash.
