Congressional Hearings on Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz Possible

The day after a national pro-life organization released a new comprehensive report showing the numerous abuses at Planned Parenthood abortion centers as reasons for a Congressional investigation, one top Republican says that's possible.

Yesterday, Americans United for Life issued a new report featuring a groundbreaking analysis of the nation's largest abortion business and saying it has uncovered evidence of systemic financial irregularities within the abortion giant, which receives more than $363 million in federal and state taxpayer funding, and that Congress should investigate.

AUL staff combed through 20 years of Planned Parenthood financial data and the report documents the known and alleged abuses by Planned Parenthood, including the misuse of federal health care and family planning funds, failure to report criminal child s-xual abuse, failure to comply with parental involvement laws, assisting those in engaged in prostitution and/or sex trafficking, and dangerous misuse of the abortion drug RU-486.

Now, Rep. Cliff Stearns, who chairs the House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee says he is potentially planning hearings on the abortion business.

"I believe my Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee should review the findings of this report and possibly hold a hearing on why taxpayers are funding Planned Parenthood with its record of abuse and violations of state laws," Stearns told Politico. "The American people deserve a concrete reason for funding Planned Parenthood; a reason I do not believe exits." Ref. Source 1

Govt Official Sends Sex Traffickers to Planned Parenthood

In a new video expose" uncovering fraud in the Medicaid system, a conservative activists shows an Ohio state official referring people claiming to sexually traffic a young woman to the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

James O"Keefe, founder of Project Veritas today released his latest undercover investigation. O"Keefe is formerly associated with the pro-life group Live Action and was one of the original activists uncovering abuses at Planned Parenthood before forming a new organization focused on conservative expose" videos.

During the visit, the fake Russian drug dealers ask the Department of Jobs and Family Services official, "Does Medicaid cover abortion or reproductive services?"

"You know, I don't know, they cover a lot," the Ohio official, Franklin County Health Start coordinator Traci Daniels, responds. "I"m not real sure."

"Well, if we have sister who needs abortions," the undercover activists respond, "Well, sometimes we make deal and she might do a favor for person we make deal with - some sort of s-xual favor. Understand? That's what she likes to do and it helps business. So she needs lots of abortions."

The Ohio official responds, "She"¦ Planned Parenthood would probably be where you"d go for that. I mean, for free." Ref. Source 2

Judge Hears Suit on North Carolina De-Funding Planned Parenthood

A federal judge held a hearing this morning over a lawsuit the Planned Parenthood abortion business has filed against a new provision in the North Carolina state budget that revokes its taxpayer funding.

U.S. District Court Judge James Beaty heard arguments from both sides today in Winston-Salem and, according to an AP report, indicated he will deliver a ruling 'shortly" on Planned Parenthood's request for an injunction stopping the implementation of the de-funding provision while its lawsuit moves forward.

The abortion giant has already sued the states of Kansas and Indiana for adopting new legislation to revoke the taxpayer financing from the group that has been shown to be the biggest abortion business in the country, to cover up cases of s-xual abuse, and to assist sex traffickers in getting abortions for the girls on whom they prey.

In North Carolina, the state legislature approved a measure to remove federal funds from the pro-abortion organization in its state budget. The abortion business receives $434,000 through state family planning programs aimed at reducing teen pregnancies and providing birth control. Although the money can only be used for non-abortion services, the same organization is also the nation's largest abortion business - doing more than 330,000 annually and comprising more than one-quarter of all abortions in the United States annually.

Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina (PPCNC) filed suit in federal court to declare invalid the portion of the state budget that yanks its tax money. Planned Parenthood CEO Janet Colm claims the abortion chain is wrongly singled out for a revocation of tax dollars. Ref. Source 8

New Hampshire Won't Reinstate Planned Parenthood Funding

The health department in New Hampshire will not reinstate $1.8 million in taxpayer funding revoked earlier this summer by the Executive Council and that will likely cause the abortion business to close or scale back in the Granite State.

The Executive Council voted on June 22 to revoke the contract and that vote went into effect on July 1. Since then, according to a Keene Sentinel report, the pro-abortion organization has been cutting back, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England spokeswoman Jennifer L. Frizzell says.

The abortion business has been engaging in a statewide lobbying campaign to get the Executive Council to reconsider the vote and, now, the Concord Monitor newspaper indicates the state health commissioner says he has no plans to reinstate the tax financing.

The decision comes after the Obama administration sent the state a strongly-worded letter to complain. The Health and Human Services Department is claiming the state broke federal rules in denying the Planned Parenthood contract and it alleges the state must provide family planning services to low-income women and that de-funding Planned Parenthood puts it at risk of losing federal funding by supposedly denying women access to family planning - even though other alternatives are available from other agencies.

But Commissioner Nick Toumpas of the state Department of Health and Human Services tells the newspaper the Obama administration gave the state until August 15 to respond. It has responded by saying no plan is in place to restore Planned Parenthood's funding, because the Executive Council remains opposed to funding the abortion business with Councilor Dan St. Hilaire of Concord, Ray Wieczorek of Manchester, and David Wheeler of Milford opposing Planned Parenthood funding. Komen Gave $569K to Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz in 2010

New figures directly from the Komen for the Cure foundation show 18 affiliates of the breast cancer charity gave a total of more than $569,000 to the Planned Parenthood abortion business in 2010.

The donations will certainly prompt the continued boycott of the Komen breast cancer group by millions of pro-life Americans who find it disingenuous that the women's organization would partner with an abortion business when abortions are linked to an increase in breast cancer and when Planned Parenthood has been proven to mislead the public by falsely claiming it performs mammograms.

The new figures come from an American Life League study of Susan G. Komen affiliates" federal forms 990 and they show 18 Komen affiliates gave $569,159 to Planned Parenthood in 2010, the latest year for which figures are available. That's down from the $731,303 Komen officials publicly confirmed in October 2010, when they acknowledged that 20 of the 122 Komen affiliates gave to Planned Parenthood during the 2009 fiscal year.

Komen affiliates in Austin, Teas; Central New Mexico; El Paso, Texas; Greater Amarillo, Texas; Los Angeles County, California; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Salt Lake City, Utah stopped giving to the abortion business while affiliates in Dallas County, Texas; Denver, Colorado; North Carolina Triad; North Carolina Triangle; and Puget Sound, Washington all began new relationships with Planned Parenthood.

"Komen's support of Planned Parenthood is defeating its own mission of fighting breast cancer," Rita Diller, the director of ALL's STOP Planned Parenthood International program, told LifeNews.com in exclusive comments. Diller added that Planned Parenthood - beyond the issue of abortion - is not the best place for Komen to send hundreds of thousands of dollars of donations if it truly wants to help women prevent or combat breast cancer. New Video Features Planned Parenthood Director Who Quit

The coordinators of the 40 Days for Life campaign have released a new video featuring Ramona Trevino, who resigned her post at Planned Parenthood as a manager of an abortion-referral center earlier this year.

Her decision made her the second Texas-based Planned Parenthood staffer to call it quits, following Abby Johnson, and it comes before two other abortion facility staffers quit - something Johnson announced yesterday.

Shawn Carney, the Campaign Director for 40 Days for Life, talked about Ramona in an email announcing the new video.

"Last week I shared the great news about a Planned Parenthood facility in Sherman, Texas, closing after the first local 40 Days for Life was held outside its doors," he said. "The closure was a direct result of the conversion and resignation of the manager of the facility (for which she credits 40 Days for Life) - and the 40 Days for Life prayer presence outside that drastically reduced the organization's customer traffic."

"The abortion organization even admitted to media outlets that the closure was due to "lack of business." (It also helped when the Texas legislature voted to strip Planned Parenthood of $34+ MILLION in taxpayer funding so it couldn't rebound from the lack of business.)," Carney continued. "On Sunday, 40 Days for Life national director David Bereit was in Sherman for the celebration rally outside the closed Planned Parenthood office in 111-degree heat - and was joined by the center's former manager, Ramona Trevino, who spoke to the 40 Days for Life participants."

"Her talk was amazing and media outlets from the Houston Chronicle to the Dallas Observer have since been buzzing with the news," he said.

Carney said the abortion giant has already tried to intimidate Trevino, as it attempted to do Johnson. Ref. Source 3

Congress to Investigate Planned Parenthood Abortion Business

A Congressional committee has taken the first steps in investigating the Planned Parenthood abortion business over abuses ranging from financial disparities to its compliance with federal regulations on taxpayer funding to concerns that it is covering up cases of sex trafficking.

In a September 15 letter LifeNews.com obtained, Rep. Cliff Stearns, a Florida Republican who is the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Investigations, writes to Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood.

"Pursuant to Rules X and XI of the United States House of Representatives, the Committee on Energy and Commerce is examining the institutional practices and policies of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its affiliates, and its handing of federal funding," Stearns writes. "That Committee has questions about the politics in place and actions undertaken by PPFA and its affiliates relating to its use of federal funding and its compliance with federal restrictions on the funding of abortion."

The letter asks Richards to comply with current federal regulations and legal obligations by providing Congress with a wide range of documents within two weeks of the date of the letter.

"Please provide all internal audit reports conducted by PPFA and its affiliates from 1998 to 2010. If not clearly indicated in the audit reports, please detail how much PPFA and each affiliate expended and received in Title XIX Medicaid funding, Title X family planning, and any other federal funding," the letter says.

The letter requests any information related to improper billing related to federally-funded programs, proof that federal funds are not being improperly used to pay for abortions by PPFA or its affiliates, audits by state agencies of any Planned Parenthood affiliate, and documentation of how many affiliates currently receive Title X family planning funding. Planned Parenthood: 38.4% of Its Income Comes From Abortions

Although Planned Parenthood officials like to talk about how a small percentage of the 'services" it provides women are abortion-related, an analysis from Live Action indicates 38.4 percent of its income is derived from abortions.

Live Action spokesman David Schmidt says Planned Parenthood is misleading the public when it talks about how important and influential its abortion business is to its overall bottom line.

"Planned Parenthood likes to talk about how only 3% of their services are abortion," he writes at the Live Action blog. "A simple example of how they come to this calculation would be Planned Parenthood aborting 3 children and giving out 97 condoms. They would say that out of 100 services, 3 or 3% were abortion when in reality the significance and cost of the 3 abortions is much higher than 3% of their efforts."

"Planned Parenthood's accounting of 3% is misleading and not consistent with the rest of the business world," Schmidt continued.

"In college I interned at the airline manufacturer Boeing, which sells a lot of airplanes and also a lot of spare parts for those airplanes. For every airplane they sold for tens of millions of dollars, they also sold lots of spare parts for as little as 25 cents. By looking at TOTAL number of sales, you could conclude that 1% of their business was selling airplanes and 99% was spare parts, which is totally ridiculous," he explained. "The reality was the value of the airplanes sales was close to 99% of their business and the spare parts 1%. Looking at the cost and effort of what is being offered is a much more accurate way to measure." Ref. Source 6
