Compulsory Sex Education - Page 4

Sex education is a must in schools, but 4 is way too young. The only thing I cared about at the age of 4 was Pokemon. Now, I'm not saying sex education leads to sexual deviance. I'm saying that at this age, students are far too young to comprehend what is even being said! Like suggested above, I feel like 10 years old is a much better age. Talk about the sexual organs at that age, and as they get older ease them into more complex topics like the biology behind sex. I believe a discussion on birth control and consent should also be mandatory in the biology curriculum, as too many people are graduating with no idea about these sort of things. Parents should be informed about what their students are learning and encouraged to facilitate civil discussion on such topics in the home as well. No matter what your views on sex are, it is important to understand the way is operates in terms of human biology.

My main problem about sex education being taught is what is being taught. There are many positions on what is appropriate and what isn't and I don't want someone telling my children this is OK when I know it isn't.

Well, they shouldn't be teaching right and wrong regarding sex in school anyway. This is education. They should be teaching about the differences between boys and girls and maybe where babies come from at the younger ages, and by that I mean 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. As they get older they can get more into it, like teaching about VD... But it should never be about right and wrong. That should be reserved for parents.

There will always be a discussion on at what age it is appropriate and what do we teach to students as far as sex education. This is one of those things that is very hard to say yes this ok and that is not. I think much of sex education should be given to students that are pre teen like 11-12 to start.

I absolutely agree with you. But it's education, not telling kids what's right or wrong. That is up to parents and right and wrong regarding this subject differ on person. Schools should stay out of that part of it.
