While this could happen to a boy, it is one of the reasons I was relieved to not have any girls (No offense intended) but I live in a country where women are targeted and as you can see from this story it is no different in the USA. Everything has to be watched and nothing taken for granted because its when you least expect it - terror strikes.

Women are definitely targets in any country, first-world or third-world. My mother taught me to not go out at night alone and to always be in touch when I go somewhere, because bad people exist and keeping ourselves safe is our main goal.

Maybe one day we can live in a world where we don't need to worry about disappearing and being killed or ending up on a missing-persons list.

Yeah that is the bad thing about being a female. I teach some women how to fight an attacker and some self defense. All they have to do it get away and if they cab to hurt the guy bad enough that he can not chase her for a little bit.

You are correct that this can happen any time any where. I think some people may think I am a odd ball because I am always looking at people around me. I am looking for that person who may try something. I am looking for that person that seems to not fit in where they are. I have a lot of training under my belt and I am a big enough guy that most people do not question me.

I am glad that they caught this guy and sentenced him to death for the brutal rape and murder of this nice young lady. I hope that with him off the streets they will be a little safer.

I'm always a little shocked nowadays when I see that someone who is a predator is sentenced to death. It seems to be pretty rare that they actually get a long or death sentence.

My family taught me to be aware of my surroundings and I think a lot of girls (And guys) disappear because they may not pay attention to what is happening around them, or their gut instincts.

Rather off topic, but...
My mom has been texting me about a coworker who gives her the creeps. Her boyfriend, who has been some sort of social worker (Although I don't know the details of his previous job), thinks the guy is a predator who slipped through the cracks during a background check. He kept asking her where she lived one day, among saying inappropriate things to her other coworkers. One is a guy about my age, whom he told during a break that the guy could come sit on his lap. He is now being hostile to my mom because he was reported by the other guy for sexual harassment. My mom gets walked out to her car each night, and has to park in a spot where there is a security camera. This isn't the first coworker in a short period of time to be inappropriate to her. There were previous incidents with this creeper guy but most aren't appropriate for me to write down in anywhere but a mature board. Normally I'd be the first to recommend her to tell someone off but I actually worry about her safety now.

Yes it is not often that a sexual predator is sentenced to life with some getting only 6 months or community service for some terrible crimes against women.
