Psychological interventions to cut traumatic memories: Tetris or Candy Crush?

The popular building-block computer game Tetris might be more than an idle pastime that keeps you glued to a screen. Playing it shortly after experiencing a traumatic event seems to block some of the recurrent intrusive memories that people are often left with. The proof-of-concept suggests Tetris could play an important role in psychological interventions after trauma. Ref. Source 8f.

Psychotherapy Games

Now I won't buy it for depression, but this seems logical. A distraction that is repetitive won't solve all a person's problems, but it could prevent the full onset of a PTSD episode by giving the brain something sufficient to focus on.

I would be curious to see more studies about this.
