I've found it helps to just be reasonable with interpretations. "No, just because they neglected to mention limits on what happens when you combine feat x with ability y, it doesn't mean you can hotswap for unlimited psipoints."

Yes, in the end it always matters who the Dungeon Master is and how comfortable he/she is handling a lot of supplements. There will always be this min/max or power hungry players that try to game the system. And that goes for any system.

Here's what I think, Dungeons & Dragons supplements are only good if everyone in the group is using them, aware of them and agree to use of them otherwise it looks like you're try to hack the game to get an edge over other characters. Yeah, in the core my character can do this but according to the supplement he can do more!

Agreed, everyone has to agree that all supplements are in play or which are and aren't. Of course, a good Dungeon Master can handle that during play by simply making a determination. I've seen KN do so multiple times.

I've played with a lot of Dungeon Masters that like to add in their own homebrew stuff and I'm OK with it so long as they tell me before and not use it like an excuse in the middle of something. Example, "Oh you would have hit but remember in my rules you don't have the bonus…." rolleyes.gif.

Yeah, I agree with the hombrew stuff. I understand the occasional, oh I forgot but it should be extremely rare.

Supplements are always good and I have no issues about using them if it can help. But I will make a determination on them or restrict them as needed if the person is just trying to get ahead or cheat the system.

KN,

I agree with you and I've seen you do just that. It is up the Dungeon Master to keep things fair and balanced. I think art of the reason I like 5e so much is the balance they have managed to build into it. I like that.
