The position of President replaces what was once the Governor under British rule. Many governments have proposed moving the position and making the Prime Minister the President but nothing has been implemented yet.

So, you have a president and a prime minister. How does that work? What are the powers of the president and what are the powers of the prime minister? Why have both? Isn't a prime minister roughly equivalent to the US president? In truth, I'm not nearly as well educated on how foreign governments operate as I should be, especially since government fascinates me.

The Prime Minister is just like the US President except he/she has no control over the military as that rests with the President. The President can declare law those acts which are passed by parliament. When there is a stalemate of some kind the President can also decide a direction but in truth and fact the powers of President are more for "Show" and "Ceremony" more than anything else.

So the Prime Minister is in fact your head of government and the president is head of state to some degree, but with very limited powers. We have vested both head of state and head of government powers in our president… which makes the presidency a very powerful political position. It sounds like although your prime minister has a fair amount of power, he's not as powerful as our president.

Name: George
Country:

Title: Power of President

Comments: Something is not quite right in our politics. If the president has more power that the Prime Minister why on earth is he not doing or saying anything about all the corruption and crime in this nation. In my opinion he is a silent member of our society and only mingle and support the upper classes. The question is why do we want or have a president at all.
