Hunter Felanor

Advisor Description

"Young master Felanor, hold up." I heard the raspy voice behind me, one I recognized but had not expected. I turned. There in the road stood stocky, gruff Carrick. He wore a long natty cloak, his bushy beard pushing out of the hood. He looked tired.

Carrick was the groundskeeper of my father's estate, but he had started his adult life as a soldier - first in the town guard of the small hamlet where he grew up, then he went to war for some Lord or other before serving under my father. I did not know much more of the man's past, and he did not often speak on it. All I do know is that, after a grievous battle injury that left him little more than hobbled, my father sent him home to watch over our family lands. So there must have been some measure of trust.

I never really considered until this moment, with him standing in the road before me, how much Carrick had been in my life. And how much he had taught me.

I was a young rascal, always running off into the woods the moment my studies were finished. My days outside of books were spent exploring, and generally getting into mischief - or at least, as much mischief as one boy could in the tranquil forest of one's own father's lands. Now that I thought about it, though, I did dimly remember overhearing my mother tell Carrick, with a grin in her voice, to "keep an eye on the little devil."

So Carrick had been ever-present, seemingly without my knowing. There were other times when he had taken me aside, shown me how to string and shoot a bow, how to hold a knife and a sword, how to lay traps for animals. And he told me stories of big game, like the wild boars that sometimes roamed into our woodlands, and how he had taken them down.

Those very stories had inspired me to pursue hunting and trapping as a profession after my mother's passing, after I decided to strike out on my own and make a name for myself.

I suppose Carrick took his oath to watch over me as a lifelong pursuit. One which steadied me, and gave me confidence. Knowing that my erstwhile mentor was still with me made the darkening twilight brighter as I sidled into town. We spoke briefly, Carrick just letting me know that he was here, should I need his counsel. We parted way, he wearily, me with a confident bounce in my step.

Message to Advisor

Dear Carrick, upon the advise of others, I have this day taken to gaining experience of the ways of this world. I am lost, it seems, unable to find my way into the sun. I have battled some small creatures and am the worse for wear, but I soldier, as I know you would have me do. Yours, A fellow soldier of kingliness, Felanor.

Hunter Felanor

Felanor was a hunter at heart, inspired by the tales of big game that his advisor Carrick had spun. So he jumped into it with all his courage and ability. Alas! His training and skill had not proved up to the task, but he is remembered as always trying his best.

Felanor would want not just himself remembered, but also his family - his mother, his father and all that they had done for and given him.
