I never did agree with the implementation of the Affordable Health Care Act, feeling it had many flaws and too much bulk. Sure, everyone having health care on paper may sound great but there is a lot that I feel was not considered for such. Especially in how it would effect hospitals, pharmaceuticals, and employment.

Oh there's no question it was poorly implemented.

But what I find amusing is that the politicians yelling about ACA being a failure tend to overlap with those most responsible for ensuring it was doomed to fail from the start.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring the official policy of his administration will be "To seek the prompt repeal" of Obamacare.

The executive order also directs the secretary of health and human services and the heads of other agencies to use their discretion to help individuals, health care providers, insurers and others avoid any burdens stemming from the Affordable Care Act, which remains in effect.

White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus also sent a memorandum to federal agencies directing them to freeze any new or pending regulations. Ref. CNN.

"Should Congress move swiftly to repeal Obamacare?" Sen. Ted Cruz asked during a CNN town hall debate on Tuesday night. "Absolutely."

His opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders, offered the consequences.

"If you are one of 20 million Americans who finally has received health insurance, forget about it -- you're gone," Sanders said.

The senators offered radically different views on how to fix the US health care system at the debate, which featured questions from an audience consisting of both defenders and critics of the Affordable Care Act.

One breast cancer patient feared she wouldn't be able to afford health insurance without Obamacare. Cruz promised her Republicans would keep insurance companies from canceling coverage for someone just because they were sick.

Sanders was incredulous. "Ted, I cannot believe what you just said. It's a direct contradiction of everything you ran for President on," he said.

The debate comes as Republicans wrestle with how to live up to their promises to make Obamacare more affordable and to reform Medicaid. Ref. CNN.

In my opinion now that the ACA is the law of the land we need to proceed with caution. Sen. Sanders is correct in that this will impact a heck of a lot of people. Is the law flawed? It most certainly is. It was created by humans and is the result of compromise. I think the go-slow wing of the Republican party, which now seems to include President Trump, has this right. Let's keep the good, add more good, fix what is fixable and worth retaining, and get rid of the rest. And we should do this slowly. [By The Way], it'll still be flawed because it's a product from humans and will be the result of compromise. But hopefully it will be better.

When this originally came out I was dead set against it. The Democrats paid lip service, at best, to being inclusive and reaching across the aisle. Why? Because they had a veto proof majority in the Senate. Had they been the least bit inclusive and actually asked for Republican input rather than picking one or two things Republicans said in the past and then sticking them in ACA and saying something akin to, "See, we included Republican proposals, they may have been able to peel off a few republicans. Instead, they did exactly what we've been seeing for the last 25 years or so and been completely partisan, sticking it in the eye of their opponents. Yes, the Republicans are just as guilty of this when they had the power. This is another key indicator of how low we have sunken and flawed ACA is just another example.

Fourteen million more Americans would be uninsured under the House Republican health care bill than under Obamacare in 2018, rising to 24 million by 2026, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office said Monday.

In total, an estimated 52 million people would be uninsured by 2026 under the GOP plan, titled the American Health Care Act, compared to 28 million who would lack insurance under the current law.

The Republican bill would reduce the federal deficits by $337 billion over 10 years, the CBO said. Ref. CNN.
