Gambling Problems

Do you suffer with the urge to gamble?

Here is a quick test:

1. Do you find yourself thinking about gambling often?
2. Do you find yourself irritated because you wanted to make a bet but something got in the way?
3, Do you ignore people or close relations if it is going to stop your gambling habit?
4. Do you find you have toi tell lies in order to place a bet (like saying you are going to the bakery when you are really going to the race track)
5. Do you go as far as breaking the law to satisfy your habit?
6. Do you see yourself always borrowing money to either place your next bet or pay off a debt?

A yes to any of the above may mean a serious gambling problem and you should seek help.

Problems Gambling

I think plenty people have gambling problems but they do not really realize it. They just think they're doing it for 'fun' but instead they're getting into this vice to the point to sell everything they have for the placer that this brings to their lives. You know, they try to fill 'empty spaces' with things that brings them only temporal placer.
Cool thread JB.

Gambling Problems Health & Special Psychology

We have gambling casinos on riverboats here.  I have been a couple of times to just check it out, but I never let it get to my head.  If I won a little, I would take it, cash it in, and go home.  But, I used to know someone who had a severe gambling problem.  It almost ruined his family.  But his wife tried very hard to get him to stop, but it seemed to make him just wanted to gamble more.  He would lose so much money at the casinos and then come home, sell some stuff to get more money to go back and gamble again.  He really thought that he could win all that money he lost back.  But he never did.  Eventually, his health started to detieorate and he had a heart attack.  Since, his heart attack, he seems to have changed his ways and to the best of my knowledge, he hasn't been gambling since either.

Well, people that win a little bit think that they can win even more if they keep gambling and only end up going home broke with little to no money.  But very, very few have won big, or at least at the casinos that they have very few big winners here.

Gambling Problems

In this town we have three casinos and a dog track. Here, we have three wards. All of the casinos and dog track are in our ward boundaries.

Makes one wonder if this is one of the reasons that the numbers are down on attendance. Members are counciled not to patronize these places and if they work in them, not to work around the money.

I have worked in the "bar" atmosphere before and I don't know how anyone could work there and not go home with a negative feeling and lack of the Spirit.

Good post!

Gambling Problems

I don't see a problem with going to the casinos occassionally and playing the lottery every once in a while. But if you think that you can earn a living by gambling, you definitely have a problem. My grandfather and great-grandfather both had gambling problems. My great grandfather went to the horse races every weekend and nearly lost the family farm because of it. He did divorce my great grandmother because of all the arguments. When they divorced he sold his half of the farm and when he died, there wasn't enough money for the funeral. My dad and uncle had to help with the expenses. He spent most of his savings at the track. My grandfather loved the casinos. He went nearly every weekend. He would rather spend his time at the casinos then at home. I sometimes wonder if there was something hereditary. My father, fortunately, has no interest in gambling though. He hated what it did to his family and his tried hard not to make the same mistakes. It's probably for that reason that I'm careful about gambling. I love Texas Hold'Em, but I won't play for money. My grandfather encouraged me once to go to the casinos and become a heavy player. He even offered to pay for my trip. I turned the offer down out of fear that I would get hooked. I don't want to go down that road.

Recently, two major athletes have admitted to losing millions to gambling. John Daly, the golfer, admitted to losing 50-60 million in the course of a decade. Charles Barkely, basketball, admitted to losing around 10 million. If they didn't want the money, they should have donated it to charity.

I wonder how many people suffer from gambling addiction and don't get help. It see it as just as bad a disease as drug and alcohol addiction and should be treated as such. I wish my family members could have sought help.

I do not have a problem with this at all, but do regular pass people on the street who do. They look like junkies, they sweat, their eyes are anxious and you seem them counting dollars to see the next bet to make - sick!
