Texas Bill Filed to Ban Abortions at 20-Weeks After Mob Stops Last One

Texas legislators today filed a new bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks and hold abortion facilities accountable for breaking health and safety laws after a pro-abortion mob derailed the previous bill.

The bill would ban abortions after 20 weeks and hold abortion clinics accountable by making them meet basic health and safety standards that have closed facilities in other states that are unable to comply. The bill also requires all abortion clinics to meet the same health and safety regulations as an ambulatory surgical center, requires a doctor providing abortions to secure admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and lastly, requires a doctor to personally administer the abortion-inducing drugs to the patient. Abortionist: Abortion is the "Most Important Right a Woman Can Have"

The Texas legislature is considering a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and hold abortion clinics accountable for violating women's health. The bill would put part of late-term abortion practitioner Dana Kusnir's abortion shop out of business.

To help lobby against the bill, she is talking about abortion and her abortion facility publicly for the first time. In the interview, Kusnir says there is no right more important than abortion and she says taking the lives of unborn children is why she became a doctor. Ref. Source 6

The Texas House of Representatives approved a measure today that would place broad new restrictions on abortions in the state, paving the way for the contentious legislation to become law.

House Bill 2 cleared the lower chamber 98-49 after hours of debate over proposed amendments.

A Senate hearing to vote on its version of the bill is scheduled at 10:15 a.m. ET Thursday. There will be no public testimony. It is expected to pass.

The measure seeks to ban abortions past 20 weeks of gestation, mandate that abortion clinics become ambulatory surgical centers, tighten usage guidelines for the drug RU486 and require doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic at which they're providing abortion services.

Critics say the measure would shut down most abortion clinics in Texas, denying access to many in rural communities, and force women to seek dangerous back-alley abortions. Ref. CNN
