Why Kids Get Bullied And Rejected - Page 2

I find it hard to believe that in this day of age we are still talking about kids being bullied at school. With schools saying they are cracking down on bullying I feel that they have not done a very good job as kids are bullied still in school because they dress differently, look differently, Do not have the same slender body as others, or any other sort of difference that is perceived. The fact that schools seem to say one thing and do something completely different shows you that this issue has a long ways to go and our schools need to focus on rooting this out of the systems.

Rejected Bullied Kids Why

Everyone is different, this I truly understand. But I was bullied from Kindergarten through sixth grade. I was the new kid on the block, literally moving in just before Kindergarten started. I was darker than everyone else with my Mediterranean complexion. The kids and parents there all knew each other and most of the parents had gone to school together themselves. So I got picked on, usually two or three of them would pick a fight with me.

I didn't become depressed or turn to artificial stimulants. Rather, I learned to defend myself. Now, this wasn't my doing so much as my dad and my uncle took me aside and taught me how to defend myself. In truth, fighting two or three on just me I almost always lost. But I got my licks in and on the occasion when it was one on one I won. So, why do I relate this story? Because I think part of this is the fact my dad and uncle provided me a different outlet.

Then, when I moved on to Junior High, I found different friends and the group who picked on me stopped. As far as kids went, I was pretty well adjusted, with no chip on my shoulder. I owe that to good parenting as much as any other specific thing. I think staying involved in your kids lives and knowing what's going on with them will help them get over a lot.

I think it's a lot harder in today's world to know what's going on due to the internet and social media. It's also more stressful due to the 24x7 aspect of the internet and social media. When I got home, I was home and could turn off my friend. Now, out kids carry it all with them on their phones.

Bottom line, I think there will always be bullies because it is a human trait in some. And following bullies is a self protection mechanism in many others. We need to find out how to equip our children to cope with it like my parents and uncle taught me.

Yes you and I both are two examples how a bullied child could not turn to any substance abuses to deal with the fact that your peers felt the need to bully you. I enjoyed being bullied all the way until after I graduated from high school. I to this day refuse to go back to see any of my class mates. They did not like me why should I make time for them.
