Vatican Tells Other Nations to Oppose All Forms of Human Cloning

The Vatican -- In an address to the United Nations organization "On International Convention Against the Reproductive Cloning of Human Beings", Archbishop Renato Martino, the outgoing Vatican representative to the United Nations, spoke about both reproductive and therapeutic cloning.

While also condemning reproductive cloning, the archbishop noted that therapeutic cloning is "An even more serious offence against human dignity and the right to life, since it involves human beings (Embryos) who are created in order to be destroyed."  He said therapeutic cloning "Must be" Prohibited calling it an "Exploitation of human beings, sought by certain scientific and industrial circles, and pushed forward by underlying economic interests."

Regarding reproductive cloning, the archbishop said that the Vatican's opposition "Is not derived only from the risks of malformation or the death of the embryo as a result of predictable failures but first and foremost upon anthropological and ethical reasons."  It is, he said, "Based upon the generation of a child outside the act of personal love" Which "Excludes paternity and maternity."

"The act of cloning is a predetermined act which forces the image and likeness of the donor and is actually a form of imposing dominion over another human being which denies the human dignity of the child and makes him or her a slave to the will of others. The child would be seen as an object and a product of one's fancy rather than as a unique human being, equal in dignity to those who 'created' him or her. The practice of cloning would usurp the role of creator and would thus be seen as an offence before God."

Catholic Church Secretly Obtains Babies Who Died From Abortion

Boulder, CO (LifeNews.com) -- Babies who died from abortions at a Colorado abortion facility, that is one of a handful in the nation to perform late-term abortions, will receive proper burials thanks to a Catholic Church. Unbeknownst to infamous late-term abortion practitioner Warren Hearn, Sacred Heart of Mary Church for years has been quietly receiving the remains of babies aborted at his Boulder Abortion Clinic.

Pope says embryos have rights from conception

QUOTE
Pope Benedict on Monday reaffirmed Catholic teaching that life begins at the moment of conception, saying embryos are "sacred and inviolable" even before they become implanted in a mother's uterus.

The Pope made his comments in an address to the Pontifical Academy for Life, which is hosting an international congress on scientific aspects and bioethical considerations of "The Human Embryo Before Implantation".

By making this statement the Pope is leaving no room for argument on where life begins or doesn't begin. It is definitely a strong reaffirmation of the church in their strict policies against abortion.

Catholic Bishops Tell Congressional Democrats Abortion is Most Important

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Speaking on behalf of the nation's Catholic bishops, three bishops wrote a response to an open statement released by 55 Democrats in Congress earlier this month. The bishops told the elected officials that their statements were a poor response to the "grave violation of the most fundamental human right - the right to life." Most of the politicians who signed the statement vote in favor of abortion, but they claimed to support respecting human life and wanted to see abortions decrease by approving social policies that would contribute to that. The lawmakers indicated other political issues were equally important. The bishops acknowledged that issues like protecting the poor and promoting justice and peace are important -- but not as fundamental as protecting the right to life. "At the same time, we also need to reaffirm the Catholic Church's constant teaching that abortion is a grave violation of the most fundamental human right - the right to life that is inherent in all human beings, and that grounds every other right we possess," they wrote. The bishops referred to Pope John Paul II's writings in the Christifideles Laici, saying the right to life is the central right upon which all other rights exist that human beings enjoy. The bishops applauded the desire to create a society where abortions decline, but stressed the importance of passing pro-life laws to stop abortion entirely.

Pope Benedict: Catholic Church's "Principal" Policy Focus is Pro-Life View

The Vatican (LifeNews.com) -- Pope Benedict XVI told a delegation of politicians in Rome for a meeting of the European People's Party that the Catholic Church's main public policy thrust is the protection of human life from atrocities like abortion, euthanasia and human cloning. He said he hoped pro-life principles would become the bedrock of law throughout Europe. "As far as the Catholic Church is concerned, the principal focus of her interventions in the public arena is the protection and promotion of the dignity of the person," he said. "[S]he is thereby consciously drawing particular attention to principles which are not negotiable," the pope added, referring to the church's pro-life stance. The pontiff called on the elected officials to defend human life "in all its stages, from the first moment of conception until natural death." Pro-life principles "are not truths of faith, even though they receive further light and confirmation from faith," the pontiff added. "[T]hey are inscribed in human nature itself and therefore they are common to all humanity." The head of the Catholic Church told the politicians that Christian faith "conveys values that are fundamental for the good of society" and "the European Union can only be enriched by engaging with it."

Well, he is absolutely right, isn't he? If they were strictly following Catholic teaching, they wouldn't be able (in good conscience) to vote for gay marriage or abortion.
