Dustin Brown banged in a go-ahead goal late in the first period and the United States went on to dominate the Czech Republic 5-2 Wednesday, earning a spot in the Olympic hockey semifinals for the second straight time. The U.S. will play Canada on Friday for a spot in the gold-medal game. James van Riemsdyk gave the Americans a lead 1:39 into the game. They lost it a few minutes later when one of their defenseman, Ryan McDonagh, tried to clear the puck away from the front of the crease and it went off the left skate of Ryan Suter and got past Jonathan Quick.

The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning pulled off the biggest deal on NHL trade deadline day Wednesday, swapping captains Ryan Callahan and Martin St. Louis in a blockbuster. The surprising move was announced just hours before the afternoon deadline and shortly before the Rangers were to host the Toronto Maple Leafs - with the hope of having St. Louis in the New York lineup. The Rangers had been trying to sign Callahan, who can become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but weren't able to reach an agreement with the gritty forward.

Stars Peverley Will Sit For Season After Collapse (Yahoo Sports)

Rich Peverley will not play again this season after collapsing on the bench during a game. Whether the Dallas Stars forward resumes his career won't be known until after more extensive work evaluating his irregular heartbeat. Peverley appeared briefly at a news conference Wednesday, reading nervously from a statement that thanked ''the number of people that saved my life'' after he went down in the first period of a game against Columbus, stunning players, coaches and fans. Dr. Robert Dimeff said Peverley was given the option of treating atrial fibrillation, the most common type of heart arrhythmia, with a minor adjustment and medication or missing several months to undergo a more invasive approach.

Henrik Zetterberg wants to play in the playoffs. ''That's the goal,'' Zetterberg said Wednesday, speaking to reporters for the first time since he had back surgery Feb 21. The Detroit Red Wings hope to give their captain what he wants, but they've got work to do. Detroit would be in its 23rd straight postseason if the regular season ended Wednesday, but it is in a logjam for one of two spots in the Eastern Conference wild-card race.

Blackhawks: Toews Out Until Playoffs (Yahoo Sports)

Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews will miss the rest of the regular season with an upper-body injury. The team said Wednesday that coach Joel Quenneville expects Toews to be ''100 percent'' for the playoffs. Toews was injured after a hit by Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik on Sunday night. Toews got up slowly and was seen holding his left arm on the bench before heading to the locker room.

Penguins D Kris Letang Set For Return After Stroke (Yahoo Sports)

Less than three months after a stroke put his season in jeopardy, Kris Letang will go back to work for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The defenseman makes his return on Wednesday night when the Penguins host the Detroit Red Wings. Letang was cleared by doctors several weeks ago and convinced general manager Ray Shero he was OK during a series of conversations while traveling with the team on a road trip last week. ''To return to play hockey, he's at no further risk to suffer a stroke than he would be going to the grocery store,'' Shero said.
