Wings' Draper retires after 20 seasons (AP)

Kris Draper loved playing hockey, and he loved playing for the Detroit Red Wings. Once the 40-year-old Draper learned he wasn't a sure bet to play for Detroit next season, he decided to hang up his skates for good. Draper announced his retirement Tuesday after 20 seasons in the NHL, the last 17 with the Red Wings.

'Hawks, Sharp agree to 5-year extension (AP)

The Chicago Blackhawks and forward Patrick Sharp have agreed to five-year contract extension. The 29-year-old Sharp tied for eighth in the league with a team-leading 34 goals and was third on the club with a career-high 71 points. He added three goals and two assists in the playoffs as the Blackhawks lost to Vancouver in the first round following a championship run the previous year.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman expects the league to review its substance abuse and behavioral health program after the deaths of two players over the summer. Winnipeg Jets forward Rick Rypien and New York Rangers tough guy Derek Boogaard both spent time in the program, which is run in conjunction with the NHL Players' Association.

Crosby's agent refutes report of setback (AP)

The agent for Penguins star Sidney Crosby is refuting a Canadian television report that says the former MVP has suffered a setback in his recovery from a pair of concussions. CTV News reported Monday that Crosby suspended his training after suffering a recurrence of concussion-like symptoms and wouldn't be ready when the Penguins open training camp next month.
