The Dark Cleric - Medieval RPG - Page 45

The Game Master says...

Dante anxiously tries to hail John but John is too focused to stop and trips over a rock falling with the kind of loud crash that those watching feared might happen.

GM: John needs to subtract a significant item from his equipment list as it falls from his grasp / self to the darkness below.

Right after you hear the bellow of a loud curse coming from above where Felipe lays. Indistinguishable voices speak in the darkness and a hail of arrows are now coming your way falling every direction falling mostly on the surrounding rocks.

You are in a compromising situation: discovered, in the darkness, on a rocky mountain, being fired upon while two of your party are apparently down.

Meanwhile...

Rasputin and Grouth are almost bored by their inactivity. After watching traps and horses for awhile they begin to watch each other with some doubt about their purpose.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

Still on the ground John unluckily takes a cut from a falling arrow.

GM: Felipe, -1HP from John and remove one significant item.

Dante and Lady Godiva successfully make a retreat from the immediate area where the arrows fall, had it not been nightfall you fear that you would not have been so lucky.

Unfortunately, despite your calls to Lodewic you neither see him nor hear him and John is far from your view. Your hearts pound as to what to do next.

Meanwhile...

The others still on the lookout notice that the two lights showing on top the peaks of Death's Mouth are flickering in a certain purposeful pattern as though a signal is being sent.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

John tries to call out for Lodewic but there is no response from him. John makes his way safely down the mountain to where Dante and Lady Godiva have stopped. You can still hear the occasional arrow fall further up from where you are now. It is dark and you decide to stand down for the night. After about 30 minutes you can hear the movement of a few pebbles further up the mountain but it is too dark to know who or what it causing the noise.

Meanwhile...

Grouth and Rasputin have the suspicion that they are not alone anymore.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

As John, Dante and Lady Godiva worriedly await whatever is coming from above they can hardly see anything save for what might be the shifting of darkness under the dim moon light. Then you unexpectedly hear someone say,

"They are there, they are there..."

You have been decisively discovered as you immediately hear swishes of arrow heads pass by you.

Lady Godiva, who already has her bow in hand, releases her arrows hoping that they find an enemy target.

Around this same time...

Grouth can feel the war horses become uneasy as you hear quick moving footsteps coming, a deep voiced man can clearly be heard saying,

"Over there, over there..."

Rasputin, hears one of his traps goes off with a sudden snap and he can see the outline of a couple of cloaked figures coming towards him.

Grouth in like manner can see the same heading in his direction but they have a cry of battle in their voice.

GM: Everyone please use the combat dice. If you have any specific actions with regards to the battle please place it in your next action.

The Game Master says...

GM: No rolls for John received.

It is now apparent that bandits are coming down the mountain to ensure your death. John is caught by an arrowhead while unaware of a bandit lurking across from his position.

GM: John takes -4HP

Dante and Lady Godiva are using arrows to see what targets they can find in the darkness but it proves to be no easy task as they neither can hit or are themselves hit as arrows swooshing by.

Meanwhile...

Rasputin cowers to one part of the mountain but he is not totally hid and finds himself the target of one bandit's arrows that misses him. The bandit draws closer while unsheathing his sword as it flickers in the moonlight.

Grouth is highly exposed because of his proximity to the horses. Arrows also come his way but fail to touch his flesh as they are deflected by his immense armor. The bandits come closer in for hand to hand combat.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

Not paying attention to one of the sneaky bandits that is to the right of her peripheral view, Lady Godiva unluckily takes an arrow into her flesh that causes her to gawk with pain.

GM: Lady Godiva takes -4 HP damage.

John, now attentive to his unique position in battle, is able to lay low a bandit rather quickly under his feet.

Dante hits a bandit but the wound is not deep as he can see his outline shuffle back up the mountain.

After a few seconds all seems still. You spin around and look throughout the darkness but you are unsure if there are more bandits in waiting.

Meanwhile...

Rasputin manages to dodge a first strike by the bandit who mocks his cowardice by saying,

"Ye can't hide...".

Rasputin tries his own attack but is far off course giving the bandit a chance to hit him a blow that slams him against the rocks in a bloody mess.

GM: Rasputin is unconscious at -5 HP.

Grouth, unafraid of battle, quickly takes out one of the bandits, the other seeing his mate go down so quickly becomes apprehensive but still comes forward.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

As Dante assists Lady Godiva with her wounds you begin to believe you are yet again alone. John stands ready for anything but he neither hears or sees bandits although a lighted torch or lantern could assist with that.

During this time...

Rasputin continues to bleed out.

Grouth continues to fight but notices that he can neither hit or be hit at the moment. The clashing of swords and shield continues but he remains vigilant. He then notices another bandit joining in the battle.

GM: I need a fresh set of combat rolls for Grouth. Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

John attempts to get back up but inadvertently twists his foot in a dark slit in the rocky surface and falls with a thud.

GM: -1 HP to John.

Dante searches the bandit and finds the only useful things are:

1 Gold piece
1 Cloak
1 Leather boots

Dante continues up and Krusten follows. Almost at the top of the mountain you can see a camp fire between two large boulders. You believe someone is there but you can't tell who or how many.

Meanwhile...

Grouth takes on the bandits that surround him and quickly lays waste to both of them. Satisfied that there are no more he looks around for Rasputin and sees him on the ground about 30 feet away.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.
