As kids younger and younger are being exposed to violence and trying to be gangsters. I think it would be a big mistake to lighten up on them. To determine if a younger person should be held accountable in full to their actions I would judge wether the crime was premeditated.
If a child of 10 finds a gun and 10 minutes later decides to shoot some random person this I think would fall under a juvenile act possibly. If that same child finds a gun then hides it, waiting and planning for the right time and person to use it on. I think this falls under the category of a more adult type of murder.
I was 10 once, my friends and I knew better than to just go kill someone. Furthermore no one ever thought and planned on how they were going to shoot one of the other kids in the community. This sort of action is sick and should be punished to the furthest extent of the law.
That being said I don't think younger kids should be put in jail with adults. I also believe they should be given more of a chance at parol than an adult. It is a harsh stance yes, but the act of taking someones life should not be looked over so quickly just because the killer has a cherubic face and a sweet voice. In my opinion they knew what they were doing. Whether or not they knew the extent of the punishment is irrelevant.
