Is It Fair?

EDITORIAL: ATHENS GYMNASTIC DEBACLE

If Utah Jazz fans had learned this trick sooner, an NBA championship banner would hang from the rafters of the Delta Center.

Fair Is

I have to believe that in this particular case, the scores were changed for valid reasons and not because of peer pressure from the crowd. The rules clearly state that if a judge's score is more than .5 different from other judges that the chief judge can discuss the score with the individual judges and have the scores ammended. Also left out from this article was the fact that the Malaysian judge raised his hand after the scores were displayed, which means that he entered his score incorrectly. Therefore, the only score that was realistically changed was the Canadian's score.
Now the argument is whether any of this would have been done if the crowd had not reacted the way they did? I hope so! To make a comparison with the Utah Jazz never winning a title is simply ridiculous; they didnt lose because of bad calls, they lost because they were outplayed by the Bulls. I watched those games and didnt think the arena was silent. There was plenty of noise from the crowd, and boos when calls were made against the Jazz.
