For me it was final fantasy and valkyrie profile. Had a hard time learning those riffs and also playing them by the piano.

One of the first games I loved back then was Star Fox for the SNES. The Corneria theme in the first level is a classic for me.

In terms of more modern video game soundtracks, I really loved the whole album for the video game Tunic. If you've never heard of it, it's an isometric 3d game inspired by "The Legend of Zelda" series. It has a meta narrative of piecing together a game manual to learn more about the world. Really magnificent, definitely recommend giving it a go.

I'd post a link to YouTube, but it seems it's the forum restricts those. So lookup "To Far Shores" and Tunic if you want a taste of the kind of music from the game.

For me, movies and videogames soundtracks are the new habitat of high musical composition. Great composers no longer make a living from creating compositions for kings or counts, but from making music for the audiovisual industry.

I can never miss in my playlists the soundtrack of "The Elder Scroll: Skyrim", although many other soundtracks have their place in my Spotify: "World of Warcraft", "EverQuest II", "Dragon Age: Origins"...
