Mshotfix.exe

Does anyone have this on their system? It usually resides in your C:\Windows directory and may be set to auto boot on startup. I have it isolated at the moment. What does it do? Is it a legit file?

I just looked it up on Yahoo!

It is MS Hot Fix. It is a way for MS to fix problems, apparently, or to download vital updates.

That is as good as I could get quickly.

Thanks, I checked through Google, I usually do that first, but in this case many people linked the program to trojans. Now when I do a registry search I found that the program always reboots and creates duplicates of itself if it is deleted. I also found that the registry checker gives it a 'yellow light' as to be cautious with it. However in checking for trojans I did not see anything unusual.

Just to shed as much light as possible on this running on your machine let me first say that it is not damaging. Every reference I have seen concerning this file has lead me back to Symantec's web site. The specific page can be found here. While this is a high risk piece of Adware you may wish to follow the diagnosis instruction contained within the link and follow the removal process if necessary.
