Power Defrag

A friend of mine just recently told me about this program called, Power Defrag.  I downloaded and tried it out.  This program is pretty good.  It works on most Windows platforms.  It is a disk defragmenting program.  Yes, of course the computer automatically comes with a program like this, but this program is much different.  It works quicker than the common windows defragmenting program.  It defrags the hard drive before your windows program starts up.  Which in turn has the PowerDefrag program to run quicker.  It defrags until it is through.  It doesn't stop and start up again like the normal windows defraging program does.  When it is finished, it will then enable your windows to start.

If anyone wants to try it out, I'll drop the link for it.  They have two versions of it.  PowerDefrag 3.0 is the newer one and is a free 30 day trial on it.  But the PowerDefrag 2.0 is free.

I really like this program.  It is definitely worth having.  :)

Defrag Power

This is especially important for older Windows platforms. If you have Windows NT, it doesn't come with a defrag at all and so something like this would be needed to defrag.

The official Microsoft position is that Windows NT and newer don't need to be defragged. I have found with Windows 2000 and Windows XP, that as a general rule this is true. The files are stored in such a way on the drive that this really isn't necessary. At least that has been my experience, thus far. With PCs, what is true today may not be true tomorrow. smile.gif

I should update this thread. They finally dropped the Power Defrag 2.0. Now they only offer the 3.0 version with the 30 day free trial. But I went ahead and bought the newer version not too long ago. I like the newer version much better. It scans the disks, corrects any errors and defrags the hard drive. I just really like how it does all of it before Windows starts up. I have found lately that before I downloaded and bought the newer version of Power Defrag, that my Windows defrag program would lock up while running its normal scheduled task once a week. Which was quite irritating to say the least.

Defrag Power

I just realized exactly how old this thread is yet I must add my 14 cents in anyway.

This is exactly true, for older versions of Windows a defrag utility of some sort is nearly as important as an anti-virus. I have however never been fond of third party defrag software. I have run this utility in the past as well as many other without really being impressed. The utility that I frequent is an older product by Norton called Speed Disk. This product is no longer common as it came as a bundle with Norton System Works which is no longer updated with all of the products within being sold separately. I have run this after running many other defragmenting tools such as Power Defrag and it still seemed to find many fragmented sections of data.
