VALERIE PHILLIPS: THOSE HOLIDAY CALORIES ARE HARD TO BURN OFF

Here's some food for thought: If you think you're going to exercise to burn off holiday treats, you might have to do more than you think, according to Karen Collins, a dietitian for the American Institute for Cancer Research.

Much Eating

I'm not too worried about packing on a few pounds this year. I've been very carefully tending to my food intake -- fresh veggies, lots of good water. If I have a few sweets, it's not going to be a big deal. Sorry, but I'm not going to forbid a little indulgence this year (not OVER-indulgence, mind you). The last thing I want to do is make myself feel guilty over a little Christmas cheer!

Eating Too Much Health & Special Psychology

Well, these days I watch my calorie intake very carefully/closely. I use a program that tracks this for me. I lost weight this past summer and want to be sure I keep it off. Since it isn't so hard to lose as it is to maintain that loss, I want to work very hard at maintaining. On Christmas Day, I won't worry about what I eat, but I will try to be careful for the week beforehand in preparation.
