How To Sail Into A Downwind Slip

If you prepare yourself and you are careful enough then you may be able to do it. It is complicated but if you follow some of these guidelines it may help:

1. Attach your fenders to the boat PRIOR to making the docking attempt. and sail towards the slip on a beach reach.
2. Stand off about one and a half boat lengths away from the entrance to the slip. You may need to shorten this distance to avoid crowding boats or other obstructions opposite your slip in a narrow seaway.
3. Make your initial approach from at least five boat lengths away if possible.

Thanks, but what is a fender? I went sailing once with friends. It was fun, but I didn't actually do the "sailing" myself. I was just along for the ride.
