I was saddened by this story but it also puts into perspective how fanatic some of these European fans can be. I don't foresee that there is much that UEFA can do as this is more of a local authority issue than a football issue. I just hope this does not become the norm as it may result in a shortage of referees or force UEFA to pay existing refs more money as there is more risk involved.

Just now referees will start to ask for even more money or wear a mask while officiating, but anyhow you take it this guy should expect such - after all could you imagine the English fans feelings toward the referee when they saw the 'hand of god' being given as a goal?
