Law and Children Disciplining

Generally I believe what is done in the home is no one else's business unless the child is abused, but that I am sure is the point of all of this... how do you measure 'abuse'? In the US I think some of the laws take it too far, other laws are good at getting the child away from an abusive parent. In Canada I hope that in their reform planning they take into account that one parent may be the abuser and not subject both to action. I think the child should be allowed to choose as well and not have government choose for the child.

It sounds like the law makers of this country are starting to get to the heart and spirit of discipline. The law makers are actually talking about parents who smack but should not be considered abusers. That just about revolutionary to the world of laws of the modern world of parenting. I think its time to stop thinking all forms of physical discipline must be abuse. I'm glad law makers are starting to see this more rationally.

Law and Children Disciplining

I think what's happening is the "powers that be" are understanding that some discipline is necessary. We have an entire generation of some really messed up teens, young adults, and adults -- in part, I believe, because there has been a lack of discipline when they were young children. You don't have to abuse a child to teach them how to behave, but occasionally spanking is in order. Unfortunately, there is a fine line between discipline and abuse, and people have different perceptions of what is and what isn't. Some people believe any kind of spanking is abusive; others go way beyond "spanking" to "beating." Trying to legislate this? I think it's impossible.

In my opinion, of course.
