Mexican Archeologists Find Rare Sacrifice

AP - Archeologists digging through an Aztec temple say they've found a rare child sacrifice to the war god, a deity normally honored with the hearts or skulls of adult warriors.

The article says we must view this in the eyes of Aztecs at the time of the sacrifices, but as a mother, I just can't. I don't understand how anyone can kill their own child. I guess they were so sure that the child was going to a better place, but still it is your child. No way. Not under any circumstances can I understand it.

It is impossible to know the end all of an extinct culture. Scientists, historians and archeologists can only theorize based on known facts dug up or found, however in the end the child could have been used as a special sacrifice to 'appease the gods' as it were, but in any case, what is the problem? Are they afraid that the ancient society will be looked down on because they sacrificed children?
