Jerusalem Recognized?

Why do you think US Policy has been so stringent in not recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital?

international QUOTE
Only two countries have embassies in Jerusalem - Costa Rica and El Salvador. Of the 184 nations with which America has diplomatic relations, Israel is the only one where the United States does not recognize the capital or have its embassy located in that city. The U.S. Embassy, like most others, is in Tel Aviv, 40 miles from Jerusalem. The United States maintains a consulate in east Jerusalem that deals with Palestinians in the territories and works independently of the embassy, reporting directly to Washington. While Congress has voted to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, successive Presidents, the final arbiters of the nation's foreign policy, have refused to do so.

That is something of a sore point for many conservatives. Congress even passed a law requiring that the embassy be moved, but none of the Presidents have done it.

I would really like to see the embassy move to Jerusalem.

It won't be moved because the situation in the middle east is to tense. If they moved the embassy, it would appear as an official endorsement of Israel over Palestine - and that would create a lot of trouble, to say the least.

Why Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel. The status of Jerusalem remains one of the main sticking points in efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Source 4c.

Ah, Al-Jazeera! You never fail to fail at being unbiased! Why is it, when Jordan invades the new country of Israel, drives out all non-Arabs in '48 (Including Christians) and takes over Jerusalem before being stopped by Israeli forces, it's called 'captured'? When you mention Israel taking BACK the city in '67 it's now an 'occupation'? Double standard much. Funny how Israel didn't use Jordan's OWN tactics and drive out all the Arabs, right then and there, hmm? Jerusalem has been and always will be the capital of Israel, both in fact and the hearts in 5600 years of recorded Jewish lore. It is the heart of Judaism and the recognition of the USA didn't change that. Also, the USA voted over 18 years ago to move the embassy. It isn't until this President that there finally is a POTUS with the bravery to actually MOVE it. Like opening a floodgate, there are now five additional countries who have announced that they will move their embassies.

Just a quick question, has Jerusalem always been the capitol before Tel Aviv or is it just a modern thing?

Jerusalem has always been the capital of Israel since it's creation in 1947. Tel Aviv has been the biggest city in Israel since then. The embassies were put into Tel Aviv primarily because of the conflict/dispute over Jerusalem.

And before 1947? I know Israel was occupied by foreign forces many times, so did they change capitals back then or?
