Seismology

Seismology studies the movement of the ground in relation to earthquakes. Do you feel that Seismology will advance to the stage where they can predict an earthquake before it happens?

QUOTE
Seismologists can estimate the probability of an earthquake in a broad region over an extended time, such as 30 years or 50 years. They know from geologic excavations that major earthquakes on the notorious San Andreas Fault - where two giant plates in Earth's crust grind against each other - occur about twice a millennium.

Seismology

Yes, I believe seismology is the key to predicting earthquakes. Simple geology dictates that the Earth is made of plates moving back and forth and over each other. Seismology can investigate patterns in these plates and how they move and possibly help predict when collisions will occur. Of course, earthquakes are far more complex than simply plate-collisions, but it is the foundation for it.

Earthquakes can systematically trigger other ones on opposite side of Earth. New research shows that a big earthquake can not only cause other quakes, but large ones, and on the opposite side of the Earth. Source 3c.
