This is another tragic case of a poor child paying the ultimate price of his life because of somebody's mistake, and lack of background family checks by the authorities.
sadly, this type of case is more common than we can imagine, or would like to think it is.

There were warning signs in this case, as in many of the others that have reached the media, one being that both parents were abusive towards this child. It is not always the case that because parents are abusive, it must stand to reason that the Grandparents were in their time abusive parents also, but surprisingly, this does tend to happen more often than not. The behavior pattern continues to follow suit throughout generations, and if the cycle is not broken along the way, unfortunately you just end up with generations of the same family thinking that abusive behavior to their children is 'normal'.
Every time I read about a case like this, it saddens and sickens me, the damage and destruction that humans can heap upon innocent little children, who cannot defend themselves.

the "inhumanity revealed here has shocked the community. They must pay a very steep price."

They aren't paying steep enough! They will be provided more than they provided that child: clean living quarters, three meals a day, companionship. But they don't deserve more than what they gave that child - essentially *nothing*. Let them be locked in a room, have to drink from their own toilet, wallow in their own feces, and starve to death. Miserable, miserable people.

That was about as strong as I have ever heard from you Farseer, but I have to admit, it was beyond cruel to let a five year old starve to death. Five short years void of love, food, water, or human touch. I can't understand how someone can do that to a child. Children are so helpless and in need of care, how can that be ignored, how does that not touch the very essence of your humanity?

Their trial heard they had kept Jeffrey locked in a bedroom, where he lived in his own feces, and left him to drink from a toilet.

I am reading this with tears on my eyes, tears of anger and frustration. This people makes me SICK, just SICK and I hope they burn in hell. They do not deserve going to jail, they need to experience somehow what this little boy went through, can you all imagine the pain and the suffering of this precious soul? I am writing this and I am very upset, very angry. They deserve to be tortured and die, die like a rat.
