Russell Latapy
Latapy got his nick name "The Little Magician" because of the great way he can handle the ball between bigger players (he is short). One thing I learnt today - he smokes 40 cigarettes a day! I could not believe that - what a pity, he could do so much more if he did not have such a habit. Sadly, he was not able to score anything for the T&T appearance in the World Cup, but to his credit he only got a short stint of time.
He is a great player and I am sure if he did not smoke, he would be able to perform much better. I am not sure if it is true that he smokes 40 cigarettes a day, at least, he does not admit it, this is what he said about it:
QUOTE |
Falkirk manager John Hughes told the Scottish media recently that Latapy smokes 40 cigarettes a day. Was there truth to that story then? "No, he was just winding me up," said Latapy. "I smoke only eight to ten a day." |
QUOTE |
The 63-year-old Dutchman, famously, is a fellow smoker, prone to puffing on a cigar, so he was unlikely to try to curb Latapy's nicotine intake. Contrary to a rumour emanating from Falkirk, the Magician is not a 40-a-day man, or a chain-smoker like the former Croatia playmaker Robert Prosinecki. He says it is between five and 10 a day. "I've played to Champions' League level and it never stopped me performing," he reasoned. "I have the same understanding with Leo that I had at every side I've played with. In a team situation, around training or whatever, I don't smoke in front of the lads." |
Latapy is a brilliant player, but now he has another hat as player and coach of the Trinidad & Tobago football team. Since turning coach he has made the team come alive, let's hope he continues to do so despite the World Cup qualifying outcome.
Name: Jones
Comments: They don't have anyone else that they call back Russell Latapy again to coach the Trinidad & Tobago football team?
