500 Errors

Certain word combinations within this Community (when trying to Post a Message), may give you what is called a '500 Error', which is a nice way of the server telling you that what you are trying to do is not allowed.

This Thread hopes to list some of the 500 Errors so others can be aware and / or to post such errors as you find them. Please note this is NOT about the regular Error messages you get from the Watch Dog, etc.

To begin here are some words or combination of words that should not be used:

From within
perl
cgi
from my
from work

What is the reasoning behind not being able to used the above words? Maybe I'm naive, but I don't see the reason why these could not be used. My closest thought was that it signals the start of a code string, but then the last one doesn't fall in line with that.

I am just as stumped on the issue. Recently my host has been doing a lot of security updates that has caused 500 errors on other scripts as well. THis seems to be a precaution against malicious code. I believe f-rom is code for some language *shrug*.

Remind me to never talk about knitting, JB. The first one is a knitting term. It's the opposite of knit. You know, knit one _ _ _ _ two? Uh oh!

MissMolly, I am sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about, perhaps you can send me an Email?

On another note, the recent 500 errors that we experienced over various parts of the site has to do with past security checks made by the server and not our own coding.

Finally, here is a list of words that should not be used in your writing as provided by the host system administrator:

CODE
cd

emerge
lynx
links
mkdir
elinks
id
cmd
pwd
wget
lwp-(download
request
mirror
rget)
uname
cvs
svn

net(stat
cat)
rexec
smbclient
t?ftp
ncftp

These 'words' or phrases act as command lines for hackers to plug / do mischief.

Hmmm.

That can make it hard to talk about a certain type of snake, revolutions per minute, a type of wildcat, and a few other things!

It also makes it hard to discuss the language that I am slowly learning, as it is the "snake name" language. wink.gif

Or, does it work to enclose those words within a "code" tag?

Using the code tag should do it since as you see... it appeared there.
