The Internet is set to revolutionize television within five years, due to an explosion of online video content and the merging of PCs and TV sets, Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) chairman Bill Gates said on Saturday.

Well when you consider that it is easy to install a TV/Video card within a computer you can basically say that this is happening indirectly. I can see foreign television through my current 256kb connection, but with faster connections I am sure any PC user can have more than what they would pay for through cable - they will have the whole world's television programs to look at!
Internet Will Take Over Tv Gaming Video & Issues Computer
I don't find this surprising. In fact, I've been seeing the trend for quite some time now. We even have a couple of our senior citizens here who opted out of cable TV in favor of their internet connections and DVD players in their computers.
