FAMILY HELD TEEN AS 'SLAVE,' POLICE SAY

A couple and their three teenage children held a woman captive for six months, referring to her as their "slave" as they beat her, forced her to do chores and threatened her life and the lives of her relatives, police said Wednesday.

I find it hard to swallow that a whole family could allegedly treat somebody so badly, it's bad enough that the adults may have done it, but it's very worrying when teenagers have been involved, and carried on as though this is 'normal' life to have a slave!
It makes you wonder what else the children in the family have been exposed to.
It must have been absolutely terrifying for the teenage woman with no means of escape, and a whole family of tormentors to contend with!

What a nightmare! What I do not fully understand is: Didn't the family of the girl saw her at all during those six months? As parents we need to understand once and for all that once you kind of "leave" your kids on their own, showing no interest towards them, there are ALWAYS predators out there willing to take advantage of your irresponsibility! I am just shocked the parents will allow this teen to live with this family without exactly knowing what was going on.

Bless the heart of this elderly man who helped this girl by calling the authorities! I believe as citizens wherever we live, we should get involved and not ignore when we see these "signs" that are telling us something is not right. I should surely get involved if I see something like that, I rather to be wrong than to see a future murder.

Rather off topic, but... This reminded me of the murder case of this toddler in the UK by two 8 years old kids. Dozens of people saw them and INTERACTED with them and FELT something was not right yet they did not do anything about it and the little boy ended up murdered.
