Are Philosophers Unhappy?

Socrates, one of the famous Philosophers of the world said the following:

My advice to you is to get married: If you find a good wife you'll be happy; If not, you'll become a philosopher.

What are your thoughts about that statement?

Unhappy Philosophers Are

Socrates was making a joke. It was aimed at himself.

Basically, what he was saying was, "A man without a woman has too much time to think". This can be extrapolated to mean, "A man without a wife and children deserves to be a philosopher."

This can also be extrapolated to mean, "A married man with children has no time to think for himself".

Socrates died single, without children, and happy.... .! I just put that last bit in for fun.
