7.0 earthquake rocks Indonesian island near tourist mecca of Bali; tsunami warning issued. A magnitude 7.0 earthquake rocked the Indonesian island of Lombok on Sunday, and authorities said the temblor could trigger a tsunami. Lombok is located about 100 miles east of the tourist mecca of Bali, which also felt the earthquake. Lombok was rocked by a magnitude 6.4 quake less than a week ago that killed 16 people. Ref. Indonesia tsunami and earthquake kill 384, leave hundreds injured

Rescue workers are searching for survivors after a powerful earthquake hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and triggered a tsunami, killing at least 384 people.

After the 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit Friday, water smashed into buildings and swept away homes in the coastal city of Palu city, home to 350,000 people.

More than 540 people are being treated in hospitals, and 29 people are missing.

The death toll could climb in the coming days, a Disaster Management Agency spokesman said. Ref. CNN.

Indonesia is an unfortunate country when it comes to earthquakes and tsunamis. The people pay a high price for living there because even if they do not get hurt by it they have to rebuild each time.

Maybe we are seeing the effects of global warming coming to play but from observations I do not find this is getting as much media attention as it ought to. Are we becoming desensitized to natural disasters or just where they happen?
