Autism: Girls
As new research filters in about autism, there is one group that is being left out: girls. Current statistics estimate that only 1 in 5 people diagnosed with autism are girls. Researchers and psychologists now say that number may be much higher and that girls are better able to mask the symptoms of autism.

There are so many 'spectrums under the Autism umbrella' that I think many are being diagnosed with a different type of Autism such as Asperger's syndrome.
It seems that there seems to be more and more information revealing what triggers Autism, who it affects etc, all the time.
I'm truly glad for the research work that these scientists are doing, and the headway they are making!
Girls' social camouflage skills may delay or prevent autism diagnosis. On parent-reporting measures, girls with autism seem to struggle more than boys with performing routine tasks like getting up and dressed or making small talk, even when the study group is normalized to meet similar basic clinical diagnostic criteria across sexes. The findings add to the growing evidence that girls with autism may show symptoms differently than boys, and that some of the social difficulties experienced by females with autism may be masked during clinical assessments.
