I cannot relate to Trinidad & Tobago music. Soca, Calypso and the steel pan seems to focus only on one thing: vice and bacchanal. Sure you may get something unique from David Rudder but it is still based on some 'issue'. I rather songs that can bring peace and relate to anyone, in other words you do not have to be part of the culture to understand the song, or like 4 beats in a rhythm to get into the groove. Now some may say that the steel pan is just an instrument... And that is true but most pan music is based on what: Calypso and Soca songs currently circulating around Carnival - another celebration that I just cannot relate to.
