"Two States" - Sanctimonious Hypocrisy
By Uri Avnery

Binyamin Netanyahu has a similar vision, but differently worded: the Arabs will "Govern themselves". They will govern their towns and villages, but not the territory, neither the West Bank nor the Gaza Strip. They will have no army, of course, and no control of the airspace over their heads, neither will they have any physical contact with neighboring countries. Ref. Source 4

If you look at the map, the continuance of expansion into what is the only place a Palestinian State can be constructed from, makes it impossible to reach a settlement that will make both sides happy or rather less upset. There is already a fence basically around what Israel has decided is Israel. They really shouldnt go any further into the West Bank. It will only make it harder to get out one day. There is no way that the Palestinians can agree to what Israel occupies today. That would mean that they would be surrounded by Israel and they would have no direct access to the Jordan River, which would be a huge issue.

While it is ridiculous to think that Israel would stop building because the US says so, it is important to figure out how this helps the end game of a 2 state resolution. The natural expansion argument doesnt hold water. They could just as easily go after declining populating towns within its boarders. Spend the money there for revitalization.

The end result cannot be the '49 Armistice Line. It is too late for that, but it cannot look like this chart either, because there is now way that will work. The end result has to be a contiguous state of Palestine for the Palestinians as well as for the Israelis. Anything short is just creating the battleground for another war.

Netanyahu Outlines Vision for a Demilitarized Palestinian State with Israel Controlling the Borders and Airspace of Palestine

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered what was billed as a major policy speech on Sunday, accepting the creation of a Palestinian state on the condition that it would be completely demilitarized and have no control over its airspace. He also said that Israel would refuse to engage with Hamas. Palestinian officials condemned Netanyahu's speech, saying it closed the door to permanent status negotiations. Ref. Source 1
