I wonder if this sort of thing was depicted in the past to be gods / angels / aliens showing themselves to humans. If I remember correctly in one instance a similar scene was reported to have happened while Alexander the Great was in battle and it was thought to be a sign from the gods that he should win.

Perseid Meteor Shower Unleashes Bright Fireball UFO & Writing Art Education Sciences

I would love to see this show of lights but for the past two weeks at night it clouds over as it gets ready to rain on us. It is clear by morning but I can not stay up that late anymore.
