What do you think about Rap? Many associate it with lower class ghetto, but this may not be so with the big dollars and names that are taking the headlines each day.

Most rap songs are very base and degrading to women. However, there are the few songs that have a catchy beat or are comical, thus making them bearable enough to enjoy. But for the most part, rap and rap artists are very low class. In my humble opinion. Sorry for stealing your phrase farseer. wink.gif

I was a big rap fan in the 80's era. (Run - DMC , L.L. Cool J , and Eric B. & Rakim)
That's when rap music was all about having fun. My fondest memories of Hip Hop was battling other crews from the neighborhood. (Break Dancing) But today's Rap music is just full of negativity. I listen to more of the Old School Rap.

Rap!! Nooooo!! I can't get away from it!! It's everywhere... just sitting next to a car at a traffic signal, or the neighbors having parties... Then, even the public schools and so-called children's television have incorporated rap into *everything*. Why in the world would they do that?? It is just horrible that these "institutions" should use rap as teaching tools.
Most rap is gangster/degrading sexual/violent/foul language-based tripe. (yes, I know, some "artists" have made some "good" rap, but the majority is horrible)

In my opinion, of course.

Well, rap today is viewed much like rock was viewed in the 60's and perhaps even the 70's. It is important for each generation to have their own music genre and it must shock the generation before! So, how do you shock a generation of parents who grew up listening to Aerosmith, Van Halen, Ozzie Osborne, etc. In comes rap!

Well, I hadn't thought of it that way, but you may be right smile.gif However, I can't reconcile to the violence, foul language, and degrading sexual content -- not to mention the "cop killing" topics.

Yep. Shocking, all right. Good Point.

Actually even though rap has the bad elements.. Like Gansta rapping etc. U have to remember thats what most rappers have grown up in and thats what they know so thats what they rap about.

Like in any other music genre there is the bad and the there is the good.
