Kindergarteners' mathematics success hinges on preschool skills

Researchers have discovered that preschoolers who better process words associated with numbers and understand the quantities associated with these words are more likely to have success with math when they enter kindergarten. Findings also reveal that children who have a basic understanding that addition increases quantity and subtraction decreases it are much better prepared for math in school. Ref. Source 7y.

Nah, next to history math is my thing. That's definitely in my genes as it was my dad's thing too. The maps thing I think came from the Army and the extreme amount of training I received. I've been lost before but I have supreme confidence I could find my way back to not being lost unless I'm in a completely featureless area, and I don't plan on getting lost in the Qattara Depression in Egypt or the Rub' al Khali, which means Empty Quarter in Arabic, in Saudi Arabia.

Math was always my best subject. Really, everything made sense and it wasn't really a topic that required memorization. Algebra was kind of common sense for me. Things like history just didn't stick with me. Ask me to calculate the hypotenuse of a triangle though, an I'm your girl.

Mathematics

While math was not always my best subject it did not bother me as I usually would figure it out in the long run. I was more of a scientist. I liked the sciences.

A new method for boosting the learning of mathematics. How can mathematics learning in primary school be facilitated? Scientists have developed an intervention to promote the learning of math in school. Named ACE-ArithmEcole, the program is designed to help schoolchildren surpass their intuitions and rely instead on the use of arithmetic principles. More than half (50.5%) of the students who took part in the intervention were able to solve difficult problems, as compared to 29.8% for pupils who followed the standard course of study. Source 9j.
