Up until about a decade ago, the Czech Republic was an oddity in Europe in that smoking was not only socially acceptable, it was more the norm than not. That has changed drastically of late and now smoking is starting to be frowned upon. Those who do smoke prefer American cigarettes, even though they are very expensive over there.
