MariusAlthain the Knight

Born in a Duke's family, Marius was always faster and stronger than his siblings and cousins. As the boy grows into a tall strapping teenager, it becomes clear to the Duke and his family that he has no interest in books or spiritual literature.

He's the first-born of the Duke, so the inheritance may come first to him, so the family is understandably worried. After what must be the tenth time that a count's daughter tricked him into a foolhardy errand, the Duke came down on him with a whip and made him go to spiritual classes in the hope that he can improve himself.

However, the more the family pushes, the more Marius resists the lessons he's made to go. Soon the teachers report that he's sleeping in classes and skipping them for the smallest excuse. That ensued in another round of whipping.

With his bruised body, Marius pushed his father aside, and dashed out of the house on his own. With bare necessities and nothing to his name, he fled far and evaded his father's trackers with ease.

After many weeks, he received tidings that his father has declared him dead, and sometimes, he feels a little better for it.

Advisor Description

Just after Marius entered the town, bruises all over the body from his father's whipping and scrapes and cuts from an encounter with the wolves in the forest, he sought refuge in Brother Oridaine's shrine.

From the hasty escape, to the harrowing encounters with the wolves in the forest, Marius' heart has been pounding and his young body is overwhelmed. In the shrine, his senses feel overwhelmed by the contrast. The serene environment, the trickling from the fountain where worshippers wash their feet before entering, the comforting warmth of the fire and the soft words of Brother Oridaine all hit Marius doubly hard.

It wasn't long before he was sobbing in front of the priest as he recounts his story (Albeit without any names or family details), and the priest helped him tend to his wounds. It was in the shrine that the young man recovered before he stepped out into the town.

Now he frequently goes to the shrine for refuge, and for advice from the trusted priest. He is not sure what the priest makes of him, but the priest clearly wants to guide this young man from taking irreversible steps to darkness that young ones far away from their homes are like to do.
