Tallis waves in greeting, and slows a little as she approaches Cahleth, "It is surprisingly quiet up there. Most of them dug in around buildings at the base of the ramp to keep us pinned and the remaining civilians outside, then they sent out what looks like search parties. They've captured the few civilians we spotted them encountering."
"Since they're leaving the fort alone for now, I figured you may need a few more hands. Besides, if this does lead out, the six of us are far more useful outside of the fort than within." She grins, "You tourists will need a guide if nothing else."

Cratol's group spots a pair of giant spiders on the ceiling. They'd lain hidden among stalactites, but are considerably easier to spot now that they're on the move. They are well out of the monk's reach, but there are plenty of throwable rocks about.
Nyzahr, although somewhat baffled by the young monk's thoughtlessness, is also more than a little excited by the hopelessness of their predicament. What an utterly absurd way to throw one's life away!
And all this for the sake of two giant, brainless insects.
Or are they that brutish after all?
"Cratol, WAIT BEFORE YOU ENGAGE THEM!"
The peremptory tone of her mental image left no room for doubts.
"Nyzahr Will Talk With The Spiders. Just Be Ready."
She stares intently at the spiders and quickly utters a series of clicking insect noises, all the while being ready to jump out of reach of their webbing and react to their imminent attacks at a moment's notice.
Out of Character: : not quite sure if this applies to these beasts, or if they're already enraged by the monk's trespassing on their turf, but Nyzahr will try to cast Speak With Animals and engage the spiders with the following thoughts:
- they are sincerely sorry to trespass on their territory;
- her companion is expressing his anger (Holding stones) because their presence in these tunnels fill him with worry for others of his kind passing through here shortly;
- if the spiders think they may feast on these, they are mistaken: many will come with FLAME and their home will be destroyed no matter what, that is unless they stay well away from this human herd;
- if they promise to keep to their part of the tunnels, the Tiefling will see to it that they are not disturbed and that a consequent GIFT OF FOOD (Ex: a live sheep) is brought to their kingdom to express gratitude.
If none of this works she will be ready to react to the spiders' imminent attack, trying to disengage and get the others' help with Message as fast as possible.
.NOTE: let's assume the bard is about 3 steps behind Cratol..

Poljen grins upon seeing the diminutive ranger and his new friend. "Bubbles! Good dog!" He gives the animal a quick scratch behind the ears and says to Tallis, "It is good of you to join us. Some of the others went that direction to see if there are spiders that may cause trouble. Lia went ahead this way, looking for a way out so we can hopefully help the people in the chapel, to start with at any rate."
The spiders chitter something that gets roughly translated by Nyzahr's spell as, "Burning! Alarm! Flee!", and scuttle towards the nest. They'll soon disappear into it if allowed.
Nyzahr is uncertain if they actually understood and agreed to the bargain, or if they just reacted to the promise of fire. Either way, they don't seem to be a threat at this moment.

Tallis says as she joins the others, "Given the cramped quarters upstairs, we'll want to move most of the noncombatants down here. If we can make the place safe for them of course. You said some of yours were heading to check on the spiders? Is there sign of any other potential threats?"
Nyzahr watches the spiders scuttle off, then throws Cratol a dazzling smile, gives a little shrug accompanied by an arched eyebrow and starts willowing her way back towards the rest of the group, whistling an off-key melody underneath her breath.

Looking around the place as Tallis speaks, "This exactly the place for children or the faint of heart. Spiders, skeletons, rats, weird fungus… "
"If there is no other place to take refuge, this will have to do. Can we afford to clear it out a little before ushering townslfolk down here?"
That is a largely a rhetorical question, not directed at anyone in particular.
