When I was in the US, I notice most Americans I met won't eat a well done steak. They usually preferred it a bit red in the middle. I personally cannot stand it. My steak MUST be well done and I am make sure to tell the waiter that I want a *real* well done steak. I cannot see a hint of pink on meats!
I will admit that a med well to the point where the middle still has a tad of pink not red left in it is my way choice.
I refrain from eating raw blood though as I disagree that the center of the meat is untainted. Yes E-coli might not live there but what sickness did the animal have when it was slaughtered?
Does mad cow disease ring a bell? If the blood is cooked guess what your safe! So all you raw meat eaters out there go ahead and enjoy.
Best beef is always roasted sorry I am not a big steak fan.
I like a medium-well steak. That is the one that Krakyn described. No blood, just a hint of pink in the center but mostly cooked. Honestly, if I ask for a well done steak in the US, one of two things happens: I either get a really well done DRY cut of meat which would better be served as a sponge, because it sucks up all the moisture within a 10ft perimeter or I get a medium-well. I have rarely experienced a place that can make a good well done steak.
In Japan, you get what you order. However, if you don't specify it, your going to get a medium steak. OH, and your steak is going to be small and expensive, so don't be shocked, but they do know how to make a well done steak. Taiwan is similar, but the size of the steak is bigger and the price is pretty close to that in the US.
Usually if I go to a restaurant and order a steak (extremely rare), I do not doubt that the steak will be well done, because I make sure to clarify that during the ordering process. Most people that have seen me eat meat say that I burn it to crisp, so what is the use. I generally eat very little meat, and when I do it must have not visible blood staring me in the face.
I may occasionally eat steak but when I do, it must be properly cooked. I am not sure where this lady got her information from but E.Coli does exist in raw meat or medium rare meat. In addition to this, the salmonella bacterium may also exist in meat that is undercooked. Salmonella bacterium is the leading cause of food borne illnesses and is mainly found in meats, poultry, eggs, unpasteurized cheese and milk. It can cause severe food poisoning which may be fatal in some cases. Here is a link that supports this:

I always laugh whenever my spouse orders a steak in a restaurant. Whenever the waiter/waitress asks, "Do you want your steak medium rare or rare?" He usually responds, "Well burnt please!" The person taking the order either laughs or smiles and says "Ok you want it well done!"
I could only eat steak if it's 'well done', I cannot stand the thought of blood running round my plate!
My husband on the other hand, likes his 'very rare', full of pink meat and blood!
Not many restaurants get this right for him though, as they tend to do their cooking 'done' if not 'well done', and he often ends up sending it back because it wasn't done as requested!
