Vabomere

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Vabomere for adults with complicated urinary tract infections (CUTI), including a type of kidney infection, pyelonephritis, caused by specific bacteria. Vabomere is a drug containing meropenem, an antibacterial, and vaborbactam, which inhibits certain types of resistance mechanisms used by bacteria. The most common adverse reactions in patients taking Vabomere were headache, infusion site reactions and diarrhea. Vabomere is associated with serious risks including allergic reactions and seizures. Vabomere should not be used in patients with a history of anaphylaxis, a type of severe allergic reaction to products in the class of drugs called beta-lactams. Source 4y.

Some times I wonder if taking a drug is worth the risks of the possible side effects. I guess if a drug like this helps cure complicated UTIs then maybe some of the side effects and risks are ok.

Yeah, it's like the commercials you hear on TV. Drug X is the new wonder drug, it'll make the sad happy, the poor rich, and take care of your bowel problems too. But in rare case this drug may result in death, sudden death, and in extremely rare cases worsening death. At least, that is what the commercials sound like to me. I thin the drug can be as bad as the condition it is supposed to fix.
