Thomas' Beyond The Wall Campaign Review

Your small town seems like a haven to you and your friends, but it is not safe.

Dangerous creatures lurk in the forest just outside of town, wicked spirits and ferocious monsters are a constant threat, and sometimes dark forces find their way into your neighbors’ hearts. You and your companions are young and untested, but ready to protect what matters.

Come with us beyond the border…

-

Since things are beginning to grow a little quiet when it comes to active roleplays or campaigns currently, I've decided to offer something quick and easy to set up that doesn't require a lot of preparation or pre-planning before hand.

I will be using Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures for this roleplay. With the core resources being relatively inexpensive and with many of the playbooks even being free, though PM me or mention it here if even that small cost is too much. Perhaps I can see about gifting the core rulebook on Tuesday, when I get paid.

The premise being that players can make a gang of childhood friends and send them off on their first big adventure, and that with this simple low fantasy game we can have all the tools needed to roleplay an exciting adventure.

There will be a number of playbooks to choose from when creating your characters. Once chosen, you will simply need to roll a 1d12, 2d8s, and 4d6s though if there's one particular result that you don't like or feels simply will not works at all… I'll be fine with you choosing a different one. From there, once everyone has their results, each of you will be able to discuss with each other the exact details of how your characters know each other, became friends with each other, their experiences within their town while growing up, and other aspects of your character’s background.

You can then also use the results to discuss NPCs who live within the village, and even the structures or positioning of the different places within or around about the town. This partly because of how the playbook actually connect your character is one of the NPC's within the village.

The "Position" of players will be decided based on who shows interest in this roleplay first and wishes to claim a slot, going in a circle, as this will help with certain details of character creation and in how to handle turns.

The rules are taken from OSR style/ Dungeons & Dragons retroclone gameplay, though with players making use of a playbook for character generation and helping to narratively defining many details of the game. This giving more control to the players with the setting, or at least the small town where your characters grew up and the NPC's that live there. This allowing for a stronger bond to be established between the characters and with their home.

Yet, because of this, it will not so easy to insert someone new in after the role-play has started without at least a fair bit of consideration of where or how they can be fitted in. So please keep that in mind if you wish to join and in whether or not you may have to leave later.

Review Campaign Wall The Thomas

Thomaslee, running a campaign is no easy task and requires constant commitment and communication. You previously did Thomaslee's Ponyfinder Campaign and abandoned it, what has changed now given your circumstances?

A few reasons actually, so I'm glad you asked. I've been sleeping a bit better, I've been getting control of my full-time schedule, the fact that I have internet wherever I go, and because I have been keeping fairly active in my posting with at least one post most days in the role-plays that I'm a part of.

Yet, there's one big reason that I'm doing this now and that's because that I will be getting a new, used, laptop by [Wednsday] and getting the desktop given to me by a friend working this coming week. Thus will leave me no excuse to not be active, unless some emergency emerges.

I can confidently say that I'll be able to give the attention to the roleplay needed and I will not be going anywhere, backed with the promise that I will not try putting another campaign together again. If I can't get this one to be a success, perhaps I'll never will be able to pull one off no matter what free-time I have.

I am committed, and I asked JB that you allow me this chance to try again. I want to run my own campaign, prove that I am capable, responsible, and mature enough to make it along side others. The members which I respect and appreciate on here who have been Dungeon Masters at one point or another.

Oh, you can run your campaign, however why not continue your old one, since a lot of work (Both on yours and mine) went into it?

Also, so you know… as a general rule (It is not unique to you) once you abandon a game I no longer highlight your future games and take it off the roster of available Role-playing Games, therefore it will be up to you to get your own Players as it will not be listed here: How To Find The Role-playing Game That Fits Me?.

Welp, good to see new life springing up in this regard. What manner of campaign were you looking for here?

The premise would have been that the party was a group of childhood friends, or at least those that have grown up together within their town. Though perhaps a few less close to some then to others, with a few difference scenarios that we could choose from.

JB, honestly I would actually want to restart or continue with my original campaign. My concern and worry is that my Ponyfinder: Age of Adventure was already a hard sell on the site when I originally introduced it, there is the question of whether or not I be able to get enough players. If I could generate enough interest I'd be more than happy to give it a try and see that it goes better the.

Also, I'm a little confused because I thought I already posted a reply to you.
